Dates - To get lasting energy

Dates have significant amounts of minerals found in dates make them a super food for strengthening bones and fighting off painful and debilitating diseases like osteoporosis. When taken twice a week, dates can seriously improve the overall health of the heart. Continuous intake helps inhibit the growth of the pathological organisms and thus, they help stimulate the growth of friendly bacteria in the intestines.

When the leaves of the date palm are ground into a paste and rubbed on and around the eyes, or when they are ingested orally, it has been shown to reduce the frequency of night blindness, and this solution is commonly used in rural areas where dates grow and are used as an alternative medicine. Many people around the world eat dates for a quick afternoon snack when they are feeling lethargic or sluggish. Chewing few dates at such times helps you regain your energy immediately.

TYPES OF DATES :

1. Ajwa dates : Popularly known as 'King of Dates', these were known to be Prophet’s favourite. Much softer and drier in texture they have a myriad of health benefits, one of them being increased immunity. These days they come stuffed with dry fruits enhancing it richness.

2. Kalmi dates : The rich dry fruit is a variety from Oman, available especially during the month of Ramadan. It’s a variant of the black dates and is typically small and cylindrical in shape. These dates are high in potassium and helps prevent diseases like diarrhoea.

3. Mabroom dates : They fall under the category of premium dates; naturally rich in minerals and antioxidants, they are very sweet and chewy as well.

4. Amber dates : These are considered to be the finest quality of dates from Medina, Saudi Arabia. It is the largest of the Medina dates and is renowned for its size. They are known for accelerating the natural healing process.

5. Thoory dates : Thoory or Thuri is famous in Algeria, and has a very wrinkled and brown to red skin. It is usually stuffed with nuts.

6. Medjool dates : Medjool, Medjul or Madjool is a sweet soft date with fibrous texture and a skin that has a color of amber to reddish-brown. It is grown in Palestine, Morocco, Saudi Arabia and Jordan.

7. Fardh dates : Fard or Fardh is a type of date that Oman is famous for. It has a small seed, a tender skin, a sweet flavor and its skin is dark brown.
